Role Overview.

As a key member of the technical team at SYBYL LIMITED, you will be responsible for deploying, supporting, and designing enterprise-grade software and database solutions. This role requires a versatile technical professional capable of handling complex database and application administration, system infrastructure, and robust 24/7 client support across Uganda and the broader East African region.

Responsibilities.

  • Install, configure, and support Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS R12.2.x or later) and Oracle Core Databases (10c up to the latest version) in single instance and highly available environments.
  • Install, configure, and support Oracle WebLogic Server administration, including node managers and managed servers associated with EBS 12.2.
  • Perform single-node and multi-node cloning of Oracle EBS instances using Rapid Clone for development, testing, and training environments.
  • Apply patches to the database, middle tier, and tech stack using AD utilities (adadmin, adpatch, adop) and opatch to ensure system security and compliance.
  • Design and implement High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) architectures using Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC), Active/Passive Data Guard, and Active-Active Data Guard.
  • Install, configure, support, troubleshoot, and resolve issues for PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MS SQL databases.
  • Perform upgrades for databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MS SQL) and applications like E-Business Suite and Flexcube.
  • Support and administer Unix-based (AIX, Solaris), Linux-based (RHEL, Oracle Linux, SLES), and Microsoft Windows Server operating systems.
  • Deploy and support modern containerized platforms such as Red Hat OpenShift and SUSE Rancher.
  • Support SAN arrays and enterprise storage systems from NetApp, Dell, HPE, and Huawei.
  • Develop, schedule, and implement robust backup and recovery strategies using Oracle RMAN and Data Pump.
  • Configure backups with third-party Enterprise Backup software like NetBackup and Commvault.
  • Implement and enforce database security protocols, manage user access, and maintain Single Sign-On (SSO) integrations.
  • Deliver mission-critical hardware and software support to contracted customers on a 24/7 on-call basis as assigned.
  • Manage customer complaints effectively and take ownership of support incidents to ensure strict compliance with contracted Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Proactively follow up on issues and maintain accurate, real-time updates in the Customer Service System.
  • Ensure proper and timely escalation of highly complex technical issues to supervisors or directly to product principals (Oracle, Sun, HPE, NetApp, VMware, Huawei).
  • Maintain accurate, thorough, and compliant documentation for installations, support incidents, and customer training sessions (RCA reports, job cards, installation reports, System Administration manuals).
  • Partner with pre-sales engineers to conceptualize and design tailored technical solutions offered by SYBYL.
  • Provide ongoing architectural and technical design support as instructed by the General Manager of Enterprise Technical Services.
  • Ensure full compliance with company standards and policies, specifically HSE, ISO 9001, ISO 27001, and ISO 20000.

 

Required Skills & Experience.

  • Minimum 3+ years of dedicated experience as an Oracle Apps DBA supporting live production EBS environments and Flexcube.
  • Deep architectural understanding of Oracle Database (Single Instance and RAC environments), Oracle EBS R12.2.x file systems, online patching cycles, and WebLogic Server integration.
  • Expertise in Linux Operating Systems such as Red Hat, Oracle Linux, and SLES.
  • Excellent analytical problem-solving abilities and strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle high-pressure environments and participate in 24/7 on-call support rotations.

Candidate Profile.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field.

Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or relevant Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) certifications are highly preferred.

Must be a strong team player willing to work, learn, and train others.
