The Electoral Commission (EC) was running their workloads on an outdated infrastructure with old database systems running a single-instance database. To modernize the system, EC integrated Oracle Linux for their Database workloads which provided them a scalable, agile and secure platform to support the critical Database systems.
BUSINESS CHALLENGES.
The Electoral Commission’s(EC) existing infrastructure was outdated and unable to handle the demands of modern workloads, especially during high-traffic events like elections.
The system was running on old hardware and an outdated operating system, leading to performance bottlenecks and potential risks in the availability of the database.
EC wanted to implement a solution that could help them provide a resilient and highly available solution to support their Database workloads keeping in mind the challenges around scalability and cost implications.
EC also desired to have a solution that will be fully compatible with the business application as well as provide good performance, non-intrusive updates, and enhanced security.
EC identified the value proposition of Oracle Linux solution which could help them consolidate the workloads and also keep a check on their overall cost without compromising on the performance, security and scalability.
Why The Electoral Commission -Uganda chose Oracle.
The Electoral Commission was confident about Oracle Linux’s functionalities and feature sets that matched their requirements.
Also, EC turned to Oracle Linux given the fact that Oracle is a leading solution provider for Enterprise solution with a proven record of providing advance technology and seamless support experience.
EC was well aware of the performance and security benefits offered by Oracle Linux which helped them to take an informed decision.
RESULTS & OUTCOMES.
The Electoral commission implemented Oracle Linux KVM virtualization environment with Oracle Linux 8 as the host operating system providing a cost effective approach for their DB workload modernizattion.
After implementing Oracle Linux solution, EC transitioned from a single-instance database to Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) for high availability (HA).
This migration significantly improved performance, allowing the EC to handle larger workloads more efficiently and ensuring minimal downtime. The robust system architecture now supports the smooth running of the election process, with improved reliability and scalability for future needs.
By integrating Oracle Linux, EC made use of Oracle Linux’s robust non-intrusive updates that helped EC to reduce downtime related issues to a great extent.
EC leveraged on the Oracle Linux’s UEK integration especially with Oracle Database solution to provide enhanced performance levels for the workloads.
By implementing Oracle Linux, EC Uganda was able to have enhanced level of security by following the best practice implementation steps to deploy the Oracle Linux.
